About the Project

"Sometimes we know exactly what to say. We lick our lips, crack our knuckles above the keyboard, or touch pen to paper just before that miraculous moment when our words come freely. Other times we don’t know what to say, or how to bridge the silence, so we ride on, watching everything, seeing little, saying nothing to each other."

SOS is a project about coaxing those lost words out of us. Write the unwritable letter to your best friend, your lover, your crush, a stranger, to yourself, a member of your family, someone you don’t really like, to anybody and to nobody, and send it to SOS instead.

Letters received are posted to the Snippets of Spirit (SOS) blog. All letters are posted anonymously, and tagged with an emotion label for easy browsing. Any common name contained in a letter will be left out in posting. Sometimes post titles say who the letter is to (a friend, a stranger...), and sometimes I make them colorful.

I started this blog as a sort of public letter diary of my own, adopting the name Sunshine and challenging myself to write more love letters than any other type of letter. Soon I had a collection of my friends’ letters, too, and began posting them as feature posts on my letter blog. I’ve decided to open up the blog completely, so there will always be new letters for us to read in times when we are at a loss for words.

Don't feel limited to letter format. There are many ways to get your message across. This is to document those random, exciting, creative, loving, unstoppable thoughts we all have, and give you a place to release them.
